Proposal

     A countrywide problem at many universities entails the inability of students to easily get their scooters and bicycles fixed. Many students rely on their motorized scooters or their bicycles for transportation from class to class. However, the scooters and bicycles will break. The students then have to figure out a way to fix them. However, many students may not have their cars at college. This creates the problem of transporting the scooter/bike to the repair shop; for if a student does not have a car, how will he get his bike fixed; and if the problem is with a scooter, even if a student had a car, he would not be able to fit or lift it into his car. A student may attempt to lift his bike/scooter into his car, and in doing so, hurt himself because of the weight of the bike/scooter.

     Practical Solution: A mobile bike/scooter repair company should be created. This mobile company would have a bus that had all of the tools needed to fix bikes/scooter…from tires, to gears, to helmets…everything! A student would be able to email/call this company in order to set up a time of when the repair bus could come and get his scooter/bike. The company would do all the work…the lifting, the fixing, etc. There would of course be a cost because any customer would be receiving a service from the company. Resulting in the creation of this company, students would get their bikes/scooters fixed hassle-free!

SUBJECT: Challenge Progress

For my challenge, I decided to read/watch/write about Dark Disney. I chose to do the story of Aladdin. Therefore, this weekend, I plan to watch the film. During the following week, I plan to read Aladdin from the original text that has been provided online by the class blog. Also, while reading this story, I plan to take notes on the similarities and the differences between the original version of Aladdin and Walt Disney’s version of Aladdin. After finishing this, I will be able to get started on the actual paper.

Blog Post #3

    

     I will be writing to you about the first topic. I love watching movies, and one that is on my “Favorite’s” list is called Father of the Bride. (Just a side note: I love to watch movies and eat dinner at the same time! So much fun!)
    This movie is about a young woman from California who goes off to Rome for an internship. There in Rome, she falls in love and comes back to America to tell her parents and her younger brother. She unloads the information to her family at the dinner table the night she gets back. She also includes that not only did she and this guy fall in love, but that they are actually engaged! The rest of the movie is mainly about the father and daughter’s relationship and how the father has to learn to cope with the fact that his daughter is growing up.

     I can relate to this movie not because I am engaged, of course, but because of the father’s reaction. When Annie Banks, the daughter, spills the news at the dinner table, her father freaks out and starts yelling at her, and then he tells her that she is NOT going to be getting married. He is not yelling at her in a mean way, but he is just very shocked and is quite disturbed about this news, being he thinks she is too young.

    I can imagine that my father would react the same way!

   George Banks, the father, who is played by the actor Steve Martin, has quite a sense of humor, and so does my father. George freaks out about the cost of the wedding, and he often would say weird comments around Annie and her fiancé Brian McKenzie…as also I can imagine my dad might do one day.

    George also starts to act irrationally when he and his wife Nina go to meet Brian’s parents. He starts sneaking around their house, looking in drawers and cabinets, and even starts peeking at their checkbook (He is just curious who this family is that his daughter is getting married into.); this results in him getting chased by the family’s dogs and lands George in their pool, which is a hilarious scene!

     There is also a scene of George pulling hot dog buns out of the package at the grocery store because he is upset that he has to buy a pack of twelve hot dog buns when hot dogs only come in a pack of eight. He is worried about this minute detail because he is stressed about the costs of the wedding. However, his actions in the grocery store leads to his being put in jail for a couple of hours!

     No, I do not think my father would react to that extreme! However, like any father would react to his little girl getting married, I imagine my dad might have some hilarious reactions to the whole “daughter-getting-married” faze of life. I can imagine he might be a little skeptical of whoever my finance might be, and I imagine he might also worry some about the financial side of things. Also like in the movie though, it is evident that the father and daughter love each other deeply. And I know this also to be the case of my father and I.     

    This movie really is such a funny, classy, wonderful, heart-warming movie…or at least in my opinion…I know some may disagree with me if they were to watch it, just like some people disagree with me about the wonderfulness of Disney World, but I think that it really is worth at least seeing once!

Challenge Post Check-in #1

     Being I am a fan of Disney, I have decided to write the challenge on the Dark Disney. I plan to read Aladdin and discuss how the Gothic is represented in the story. ..perhaps the setting, characters, and events of the story. I also plan to watch the  movie 1. In order to distinguish the differences between the written story and the movie, and 2. because I just like Disney and like watching any Disney film!

Graduation Excitement!

Quite a picture isn't it! This is a picture of my brother, Robbie and I, on May 23, 2014 in my front yard on the day of my graduation. As one can infer from the photo, I was overflowing with excitement! THE DAY of my high school graduation had finally come! My brother and I were in such a jocular mood, laughing and making silly pictures like normal. I was excited about that night and for the entire weekend that was to follow.

I was dressed in this photo in all of my graduation garb...and one can see that my brother was not exactly dressed for the graduation ceremony yet. I was required to be at school about two hours earlier than any of my family because the seniors had to get one last practice in and had to get portraits taken. 

My family on the other hand did not have to be there that early, so their schedule was a bit different than mine. My brother, for example, had been working outside all day, resulting in his being drenched in sweat. 

But as one can see, I did not care that he was not in a suit or care that he was dripping in sweat! I was going to get a picture with him!...and of course being our attire was so different from each other's, we decided to take a funny picture instead of the traditional "Oh my goodness, I can not believe you are graduating" sappy picture. 

I remember I was ecstatic about what was about to happen! Graduation was that night and I was going to give a speech! I was not particularly nervous about the "getting up in front of people part"; I was more worried that I would not be able to make it through my speech without crying, for lots of emotions were going through my head at the time... Tears of happiness, I will add though...not tears of stress or sadness.

I was also joyous that some of my out-of-state family was able to come down for my graduation, for there was a time in the year that I was not sure if anyone was going to be able to make it. 

This next part, I was especially excited about! 

Following the reception, my mom was going to invite anyone who had come to my graduation ceremony to come over to our house for dinner!...And I got to choose what we were going to have! So I chose two of my favorite things to eat...my mom's homemade chili and...freshly-cut fruit salad! Oh how I do love my mom's chili! 

I even brought the recipe from home and made it in my dorm room! It was absolutely delicious!

The next day was going to be the graduation party at my house! We were going to have homemade, pulled-pork BBQ, coleslaw, chips, and watermelon! I love having company over to my house, so this was truly divine!

The party was Saturday, and then on Monday, my family and I were going to take a trip to Ormond Beach, and we were even going to stay a few nights! I love the beach, and it was going to be so very nice to spend time with my parents and brother, and our family/friends the Mills, the Scotts, and the Walkers. It was going to be such a nice break from the regular routine of life! No more homework, no more studying, no more school...well at least until another month!

 Final relaxation had begun with the people I love!

My "Major" Decision

"Blood gushing out of a brain in room 302, emergency C-section in room 304, compound fracture in 305"-this all sounds very interesting to me! I have wanted to be a nurse for all of my life. My mother is a nurse, and I have several other family members who are in the medical field; however, that is not the basis for my decision in my major of nursing. I do not mind the site of blood...at all. In fact, when people try to gross me out with pictures of compound fractures, it interests me, and I want to see more! For these reasons, I would like to become a nurse. I think it would be amazing to work in the delivery room and to help in the process of bringing a wonderful new life into the world. What an amazing miracle that is! I also think it would be fascinating to work in the ER! All of the different scenarios would be packed full of excitement! Different cases every night!!! I also think it would be neat to become a helicopter nurse...not for full time probably, but just to try it out! Oh and then there is travel nursing which sounds terrific too! Because nutrition interests me, I have also considered minoring in that. Something else I thought would be interesting is to go on mission trips once I earn my degree! I might also want to go further than nursing, but for right now I will just start with nursing. I am not sure what the future holds, but I anticipate the adventures that are to come!
